Writing Effective Marketing Copy For Your Website

November 8th, 2007  |  by Real Estate Marketing Team Published in search engine optimization  |  2 Comments

When designing a website, people tend to focus so much on the design process that they forget that their No. 1 selling point is their content. Having photos and tools is great for your site’s visibility and functionality, but when people are searching for products and services online, you need to have the best information out there to get high in the search engines.

Now I can go on forever on how important SEO content is for your website’s long-term visibility and standings, but having content that is more conversational and appealing to readers is what makes people return to your website and use you as a reference. It’s important to make sure that the keywords are not “stuffed” into the content making it sound forced and awkward. Hiring an SEO copywriter/copyeditor can help make the content on your site flow with a friendly and professional tone.

One complaint I’ve had from clients is that the content doesn’t really sound like them. Having your content written for you will obviously damage the sound of your writing voice. This is a risk that clients will have to take when hiring an SEO copywriter, but there are more benefits to having someone else write and edit your content.

  1. Bad grammar can damage your credibility- No matter how great of a writer you think you are, we all become so lost in our own words that we tend to miss some grammar errors. Hiring a professional team to handle your content can eliminate this problem.
  2. Lack of focus can lose readers- You need to have content that speaks to visitors overall wants and needs or they will leave the site immediately.
  3. Write brief paragraphs- Content should be concise and scannable. Use bullet points to get as much information out as possible in short sentences.
  4. Calls to action- Each page should be filled with a call to action somewhere near the end of the page. This should coerce the visitor to provide some interest in your services.

Very good points… I think content is a seriously underrated tool, yet it is one of the most important features for marketing a website. Clients need to give equal weight to their design and their content in order to get the most out of their websites.
