Google Branding… Hype Yours For Higher SEO!

by John

hype-your-brandAccording to Aaron Wall of SEOBook, right now is the time to maximize your business branding as quickly as possible. According to his latest post on Google branding, Google’s natural search algorithms have shifted in a way that can’t be denied… The bottom line is that this is happening on a national level right now: strongly recognized brands are receiving preferential treatment in the natural search results.

How does this impact your local real estate search market? Well, for one, it will likely become harder to beat out nationally recognized names like Trulia, Zillow, Yahoo Real Estate, and so on in the search results because these highly recognized name brands may receive preferential treatment in the results. Plus, it’s also possible that the top locally recognized real estate brands in your area could start receiving preferential treatment. This could hurt you if you are just starting as a real estate professional, or are beginning a new real estate company with substantially different branding.

These shifts on a national level may have happened suddenly, but it may take awhile before Google decides to apply this approach to a localized level. So what’s the move to make? Well, first off don’t panic. You can always make your website a better site. And you should. We teach you all about that on this blog. But your emphasis on branding should be strengthened. Do everything in your power to become (if you aren’t already) a locally recognized top-performer. Wow! I wonder what Google will charge for that preferential level of service they’re developing for specific brands.

It sounds to me that there is definitely some consolidation occurring which Google is attempting to protect gross revenues by establishing tiered search preferences for clients willing to pay a premium to keep their brands in front of the public.

There are options that local real estate professionals could explore by showing on their individual websites a “search powered by” search engine portal. That would give Google something to seriously think about.

I’m a big fan of Trulia, Zillow, Yahoo Real Estate, and all of the like. However, I wouldn’t want portal access control of any of my firm’s listings (realtor.com).

The Internet should be a search free zone for content (real estate listings). Perhaps local professionals should begin developing strategies for aligning with other search engines as a result.

We are on the same page as you Michael.

The good news is that local professionals are starting to come up with plans for this. Unfortunately, no one has done it successfully yet, but the wheels are in motion.

I am glad you highlighted this post from Aaron Wall. I thought it was a great post and that members of the real estate community really need to be on the watch.

It certainly shows that you need to grow your brand to establish credibility and gain visibility in the search engines. I hope real estate profefessionals grow beyond their names and create brands based on their areas of service as that should allow a greater depth of content that will last through changes in the search engines.

Interesting to know that Google has changes their system a bit. I noticed a shift a few weeks ago with some of my search engine rankings. All I know is that you can never stop working to better yoru sites.
